Welcome!/Tere Tulemast!

In this blog, I mostly write in English, although when I write about things that may also be important for my grandparents, then I also translate my posts into Estonian.

Käesolev blogi on enamjaolt kirjutatud inglise keeles, kuid kirjutised, mis on mõeldud ka vanavanematele lugemiseks, on tõlgitud ka eesti keelde.

Day #2 - Don't go to Milan in August

Buongiorno!

Our second day in Milan was much sunnier and full of many nice people. / Meie teine päev Milanos oli palju päikselisem ja kohtasime paljusid toredaid inimesi.

We only reached to one conclusion – travelling with backpacks is great until you do not have to carry them around the town all day along. / Me jõudsime järelduseni, et seljakottidega reisimine on tore kuniks neid ei pea kaasas vedama.

But enjoy the rest of the writing! / Head lugemist!

In the morning, after we had done all the things that needed doing – e.g. found ourselves a host for the night, we packed our things and started to move towards the city center once more. Before we left the hostel, we met one of the guys who we shared the flat, got to know that he is a train electrician and exchanged contacts.

Quickly after leaving the hostel, we found this nice bakery, where this really nice Italian guy sold us a panini with meat and tomato + two strawberry basket-cakes for 9€. They tasted very good, so we decided to take a picture with him before moving on.

Later we walked about four to five kilometers until we arrived to Duomo, where we started to look a place that would offer three things: food, free Wi-Fi and free toilet – apparently not a common mixture here in Italy. On the way, we bought a piece of coconut for 1€ and ate it. Finally we decided to go back to the pizza place we visited the day before, as we knew they already had it all – ordered a salami pizza and a beer for 14.50€.

Then we went to search a shop called Kilo Fascione, where they supposedly sold clothes per kilo, but we could not find it. As it was hot, we decided to get some cold drinks from a kiosk-car nearby and ordered a lemon and a peppermint slurpy for 2€ each. The lemon one was good as always,but the other one was just awful – never try it!

It was still hot and we were tired, so we tried to go to cinema, but all the films were in Italian, so we decided to pass it and walked to Castello Sforzesco, where we heard that there is a park, where we could have some leisure time. Arriving there, we took out a blanket and laid on it, relaxing for an hour or so. Then we walked through the Castello and decided to move back to the city central and towards the place where we were supposed to meet our host for the night.

Firstly we took a tram to Duomo and then walked towards Central Station, looking for an open shop or bar, where to get one drink and visit the toilet, but there were non – all of the places were either closed already or on holidays until the end of August. Apparently everybody is on vacation in August – so never go to Italy, or at least Milan in August :D.

Finally we got to Central Station, where we got to visit the free toilet of McDonald’s (if you want to go to toilet or find Wi-Fi, McDonald’s is your place everywhere in the world). As Lele had a taste for Coke, we also bought one for 2.50€ and then went on the metro for 1.50€ each, towards Precotto station, where we were supposed to meet our host Anna, the Opera singer from Siberia.

When we arrived there the only supermarket we saw until this point was closing, but they let us in to get all of our things in 3 minutes – it still took us 5 to find it all, after we had ran through all two floors of the shop and we ended up with two coffee yogurts, some bakeries, a Frizzante and a lemon ice tea, all for 6.14€.

Now we had half an hour to wait, until Anna was going to pick us up so we just sat at the bus stop playing 2048 on my  iPhone.  Finally  Anna arrived and we walked to her home. There she told us that her boyfriend hosts 600 people a year and never hosts anyone for less than a couple of days, but as he was out of town, Anna decided to help us for this night. We also shared the Frizzante and the girls talked about singing, while I was looking for a host in our next stop – Bologna. Anna also showed me the site blablacar, where I managed to find myself a driver, who was going to take us to Bologna in the next morning.

Finally it was time to go to bed.

All in all our expenses were the following:
* 9€ for the bakeries.
* 1€ for the coconut.
* 14.50€ for pizza, beer and service.
* 4€ for two slurpies.
* 2.50€ for Coke
* 3€ for metro tickets.
* 6.14€ for food at the supermarket.

= 40.14€ in total.

Have a nice day! / Ilusat päeva!
