Life in Cambridge
When I first arrived to Cambridge, I had to look for the bus station to catch a bus, which would take me to Augur, so I asked someone the way and got to it. After a little phone call with Augur, my host in Cambridge, I found the right bus and got onto it, just to then miss my stop and drive all the way out from the town - fortunatelly the bus driver allowed me to come back with the same ticket and soon I already met my host and my bed for the next days - it only took me two hours, but it's all part of a fun experience.
After arriving to my new home for the few days, Augur cooked us a wonderful dinner - bacon and scrammbled eggs. Later we just spent hours talking about him, me and what we will be doing in the next couple of days until it was long past midnight and we desided to go to sleep a bit.
In the next morning, after eating cerial for breakfast, we got ready and headed down to town to start visiting the Cambridge Open Days - Augur was even so nice, that he came with me and spent the whole day telling me about different things and places in Cambridge, as well as showing the way.
First we went to see the first college on our way, Magdalene (not to be mistaken with Magdalen in Oxford), where some years ago Augur himself went, as he was doing his PhD in Cambridge. There a nice girl, Lauren, showed us around and basically, even though we visited at least ten more colleges in the next two days, then after Lauren had showed us around and Augur had been telling me different stories, I would say that I made my decission that if possible, I would like to get to this college, as it has the perfect history in it, they have old traditions, they are not too big, not too small, they... And so on... The only problem that I first had to fight in myself was the fact that it had been the first college I had seen and therefore I did not want to end up as some people, chosing their first college they see due to their lazyness. But still I would say that this seems to be it, for some random reason.
Anyhow, later we visited some more colleges, that I am not going to talk about any further, I am just saying that some where bigger, some smaller, some richer, some poorer, but in my mind I was already thinking about Magdalene the most (the same thing happened with Sutevaka some years ago, when I first went into it and said that this is the place I will want to study in).
We also went to some talks about different courses, as at first I had many triposes that seemed interesting, but one by one I was dropping them and by the end of the two days, I would have to say that HSPS (Human, sociological and politacal studies) seems to be the most suitable for me.
In the evening we also went to shop to buy some food for the next two days, after spending an hour in the shop and anoither one waiting for a but that did not come, we arrived to home, where Augur made a vegetable curry, which was delicious. Later we just watched some things on the television and then went to sleep.
On the next day we just visited some more colleges together and then Augur had to go back to home to work, so I went to see some lectures in different subjects and by six o'clock I also arrived at home, where we ate fish as a dinner, played some boardgames, watched some shows and went to sleep.
The next morning Augur gave me breakfast again, we spent some time talking and then it was time for bye-bye. All-in-all, Augur is a great host and I really do hope that I do get to Cambridge as then we could again sometimes do some fun things together, while I am not studying and he is not working.
What happened after, will be written in the next post.
Samal ohtul soime me koos peekonit ja munaputru, mille Augur meile ilusti valmis tegi.
